My Introduction To The Blogging World | Story & Experience

Four years ago blogging to me was just a hobby. I did you know that people can actually make money from their blogs. I started blogging back in 2013 when I was still a student. My first blog was about any random thoughts that came to my mind. I fondly named it as ‘Jittery Fiction’.

Even though I did not know anything about blogging back then, I was overwhelmed to check my stats that showed a few readers.

I did not know whether these statistics were real. But I remember how good the feeling was to know that my posts had readers, no matter what I wrote.

The excitement kept me going for some time. After publishing a few (not so great) posts, however, I got bored with blogging.

My stats remained the same. And most of my posts remained undiscovered. Eventually, my blog became totally inactive. I stopped publishing altogether.

A few months later, I came across an article, which said that people can make money by blogging. This was like news to me. I had never known that could be possible.

How could you earn from your blog? You are only just writing online after all.

I tried googling how to make money by blogging. But somehow I could not land on to the exact thing I was looking for. Eventually, I got involved in preparing for the mid-semester exams that were ahead of me. My research on money-making through blogging ended there itself.

Three years later in 2016, I got a call from a popular blogger (I didn’t know it back then). Apparently, it was in response to my application for a content writer’s position via Linkedin. At that time I was just out of college. So I made very generous use of my LinkedIn account.

Clearly, when I received the phone call, I didn’t know which employer I am talking to. But the conversation went well and I got the job.

I was supposed to work as a remote writer where I had to write about techie stuff like WordPress, Web Designing, WP Product reviews, roundups, etc. The name of the site I had to write for was Sourcewp.

I have done my Graduation in English and my Postgrad degree was on Foreign Policy. So when I started drafting my first post on Sourcewp, things went over my head.

My employer, however, was in constant touch with me.  And as promised he helped me in every step of drafting my first post. I had to write about Best Photography WordPress Themes.

I looked up online and started drafting. I first thought that I had to write about Photography and the skills involved with it. But I figured out that the post was actually a roundup of the WordPress Themes for photography sites.

Even though a newbie in the field I somehow managed to complete my task. I could not lose my job. I was already bored of sitting ideal for more than 3 months.

Once the draft was ready I hit the save button. My first post was done. That’s what I thought. But it was far from being complete. Because what I did was just adding content. There are so many other things you need to do to a post before it goes live. At this point too, I had no idea that it was going to be a bylined post.

In fact, I didn’t know what a bylined post is. A bylined post basically has the name of the writer when it is published.

The above picture is my first post to go live. The date of this post has now changed because it has been edited and updated later to take care it still remains active online. It looked completely different from how my final draft looked like.

This one had images and different headlines and beautiful buttons with links. The editor took care of the visuals and made sure it looked good. Since then I have been blogging and today, blogging is my full-time profession. In all these years I have learned new things. Every day was a learning experience.

In this blog, I want to document every single thing that I have learned about blogging and share with you guys what I have learned so far.

Since this is my first post in My Blogging Journal, I thought I must start from the beginning. In the subsequent posts, I am going to talk about different things that I learned every day in the last 20 months of my blogging career.

I am also going to talk about how I have grown during this period and why I enjoy doing this so much today.

  1. nice to see, the hobby culminated to a profession. I am on the same journey now and hope to achieve a good balance after slogging for years.

But I really feel, I read this post earlier, although the date seems today’s.
